This came to my mind many years later when I wrote thesis about small sounds.
I remember when i was a child staying in bed instead of going to school, little bored and half asleep, sounds from outside came through a window. Among others, calling of a pigeon came into my ears. I hate pigeons’ call, especially in the city, its monotonic unclearness in the tone and how it ends in the middle of nowhere.
I breathe with the sound, counting its calls until it stops, the end gave me a bad after taste that is difficult to digest.
I tried to erase the calling of pigeon from my ears. Try to concentrate on something else, say sound of my breathe, but still the pigeon was there in the background, and the sound of car from the street, winds …
Suddenly, my ears got defocused in a strange way, that i heard all sorts of sounds as one. calling of pigeon, cars passing by wind, my breathe or the subtle noise which my bed cover makes, afar or near, there was no difference in distance, all became one sound. Nothing could be separated, and I was a part of the whole.
In the night wind blew smoke into our tent. we had to erase the fire.
Water and the glow, deep bubbling and high hiss noise.
we listened until it became silent.
In the following night thunderstorm from the sea.
Big drops hitting the tent, thunder in the distance,
sound of the leaves in the wind, made me remember the sound of the fireplace.
Just as falling asleep, I asked myself : is this the echo from yesterday?
20. July 2006
One day, as my soul was shaken by the news of earthquake and the damaged nuclear plant,
my neighbor gave me a duck egg from his garden.
I´ve never saw a duck egg, it was huge, three times bigger than normal egg from the shops.
I carefully divided the egg, (felt like a bomb) there came out a huge yolk, so yellow!
a big yolk, more than half of the whole.
The primal scream! coming out of darkness into light.
I made an omelette, which was also very yellow.
brought out in the garden and ate under the warm sun.
Feel yellow from inside and outside,
a color that is very primary, a color of life.
Wish i could share this yellow omelette with everyone.
